Travelling to Canada

College Kids,

I'm heading up to Vancouver, Canada to check out those nice 'tobacco use only' hookah cafes they have there. Do i need any special documents to get into Canada?

Yes, thanks to our Great Leader and the War on Terror, you will soon need a passport even when traveling to Mexico or Canada. The passport rules have changed recently and we are still in a transition phase. You already need a passport when flying to these countries and starting on January 1, 2008 you will even need a passport when driving across the border. The good 'ol birth certificate just isn't good enough anymore.

If you want to know more check out the official US Department of State page on the new regulations: New Travel Requirements for US Citizens

All people should have a passport, and not enough Americans do. You never know when you might want to skip town, so it's a good idea to have your papers in order. You can and should apply at any of these places.

Best of luck in your travels. Oh, and if you visit the hookah bars, do be careful about what kind of 'tobacco' you try to bring home with you. Your 4th Amendment rights don't apply at the border. Cheers!
