College Music Discovery: Jose Gonzalez

Jose Gonzalez

So it’s about time that Ask a College Kid began to review music, right? Let’s face it, aside from cheap beer and cliff notes, every college kid likes music. We are not going to stick to your average reviews though. If you want those, go to Rolling Stone. We are focusing on displaying new and upcoming artists. Enjoy!

To pop our musical cherry, here is an Argentinean artist, whom hails from Sweden (I couldn’t believe it either). His name is Jose Gonzalez. He is a folk/indie musician, who has won this college kid’s heart. Jose’s music is not the type to help you fill your beer bong, so it may be better to keep Jose on the shelf during your next kegger, but he is definitely worth a serious listen. If you enjoy the sounds of Simon and Garfunkel, you will like Jose Gonzalez. His poetic and somber guitar will captivate your mind, forcing you to listen again and again and again. Some of my personal favorites are the songs titled “Killing for Love” and “Cycling Trivialities” off of his latest album, In Our Nature, which will hit the stores on September 25. His sweet and mellow voice is the perfect soundtrack for writing a paper or finishing that novel you haven’t had the time for. So on the next rainy day, take a seat, twist one up, throw on Jose and get ready to enjoy.

Check out his myspace page, and give him a listen. Let us know what you think too.
